Rancid - Nottingham
Rock City
12.11.2006 Support Bands - The Unseen & The Adulescents I
really didn’t know what to expect from this gig.
I was treated to tickets and on arrival the queue went from the entrance
all the way round to the pub on the next street.
I can say that I haven’t seen such a colourful queue of people since
the Wasted Festival in The first support act, The Adulescents, were a good fun popular punk rock band with a humorous slant. A very enjoyable warm up band. There
isn’t much I can say about the support band, The Unseen.
Frankly, in my opinion they should be seen and definitely not heard.
The band on a whole could play rather well but the singer spoilt it by
insisting on screeching like a banshee on heat.
Apparently they were singing about being against war but I couldn’t
hear a word of it and so if they had a valid point about such an important
issue, it didn’t come across as so. Let’s
just say that I wouldn’t pay to see these guys unless they ditch the singer. Rancid however, played an excellent gig with a brilliantly played acoustic version of ‘Fall Back Down’, which in my opinion came across more strongly than the electric version that is on their album, ‘Indestructible’. With excellent lyrics and brilliant musicians who can both play/sing and keep the fans entertained. The best way to describe their sound is Punk-Rock-Ska as it has the entertaining qualities of all three styles blended into one highly worthwhile band. If there was more of this style of music in the charts then I would listen to the radio a lot more. Having never seen these guys perform before today, I would definitely go and see them again. Rancid
