Rancid - Nottingham
Rock City
10.11.2008 Support Bands - The King Blues & GBH After
the last excellent Rancid gig, I wasn’t going to miss this one and when I
found out they were being supported by The King Blues then I was doubly excited
about going. The
King Blues were the first support and if you have read my reviews of Rebellion
then you know that this band is great. Unlike Rebellion 09, you could
actually hear everything they were singing and saying. There songs have
good messages to pass to the crowds as does their chatty stage presence. I
would say they are a blend of Ska and Reggae, with a slight influence of
‘Indian Culture’ to their music. It’s bouncy and full of life, and I
can truly say I could listen to them everyday. There
isn’t much I can say about the other support band, GBH. I’ve seen them
at Rebellion in the past and didn’t like them much but I thought I’d give
them another go. I must say they can play and you can make out some of the
words but with songs like ‘City Baby Attacked By Rats’, they just aren’t
my thing. However, if you like heavy, ‘shouty’ punk music then they
are a good band to watch. Rancid
performed another fantastic gig, playing all my favourites and keeping me
bouncing until the very end. They managed to keep the crowd going wild
from before they even came on, which lets you know just how popular they are.
The best way to describe their sound is Punk-Rock-Ska as it has the entertaining
qualities of all three styles blended into one highly worthwhile band. If
there was more of this style of music in the charts then I would listen to the
radio a lot more. If you haven’t seen them and you like one or more of
the three styles I noted above, then you should make a point to go see them
ASAP. They’re awesome. Rancid
