The Damned - 1st Floor Club, Derby 08.12.2006 Support Bands - Goldblade I couldn't wait for this gig, I'd wanted to see The Damned at Wasted earlier this year and never got the chance. Once I'd found out that Goldblade were the support act, I knew I was set for a good night out. The 1st Floor Club was quite a large venue but the may I just say that I wasn't impressed with their sound. Goldblade's slot was excellent as always with all the guys giving a energetic performance to possibly one of the hardest crowds in history. My only issue was that the guitars didn't appear to be as crisp as normal. But as always, the sound improved when The Damned started playing. Whether this was a problem with equipment or, what I feel may have been, a headlining act's not wanting to be 2nd best on the night, I don't know. But after The Damned's performance I felt it was the later. I had heard a few of the Damned songs prior to this evening but my very favourite is Elouise. Although some of the songs were performed well, Elouise just wasn't up to scratch. So between that and Captain Sensible acting like he was God's gift to guitar, I found myself wishing that I had gone home after Goldblade. May I just say a big thank you to Goldblade's John Rob for signing his book 'Punk Rock An Oral History'.
