Do you know what you’re eating?

Up until now I have always followed doctors and health fanatics advise; eat plenty of fruit and veg, eat low fat foods and drink plenty of water.  I’ve always been good; diet drinks, low fat yoghurts, and my only vice being chocolate.  Up until a few months ago, things were seemingly ok.  Then I started to get the following symptoms:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Twitchy, irritable muscles
  • Pains in my chest
  • Itchiness
  • Headaches
  • Tiredness

I went to see the doctor and she gave me an inhaler.  On further investigation, I found that these symptoms were also the symptoms of Aspartame poisoning.  This is a chemical sweetener found in low fat/sugar free foods.  I also found out that this chemical, unlike other sweeteners, stays in the body, so with every bit consumed it just builds up and up.

I decided that because of this information, I would cut it out of my diet completely.  This, however, was not such an easy task.  Shopping took ages.  Checking all the packages to make sure they were Aspartame free but basically it was looking like anything Low Fat or Sugar free would contain Aspartame.

Products that contain Aspartame

  • All cheap/shop brand fizzy drinks whether low fat or not.
  • Sugar free dilute drinks
  • Flavoured water
  • All low fat yoghurts (apart from organic and thankfully Asda are now doing low fat yoghurts which are free of Aspartame)
  • Low fat pro-active yoghurt drinks
  • All brands of chewing gum
  • Low fat desserts
  • Low fat sugar and sweeteners

I couldn’t believe how much I had to give up but in doing so I feel much healthier.  Check out this website for more information on Aspartame poisoning.

UPDATE ON ASPARTAME

Since writing the article above I would like to add that Asda are starting to take out Aspartame from their low fat foods, so keep checking your labels before buying and lets get this poison out of our foods.  Well done to Asda.

UPDATE ON ASPARTAME

Poison in our Vitamin tablets.

Went out to buy my usual Winter supplements to prevent the colds and flu bugs from getting and shock horror, chewable Vitamin C tablets have Aspartame in them.  All I can say readers is WATCH YOUR LABELS.
