Education For Online Users Only

I was shocked to see a news article this week about the new up-to-date Oxford English Dictionary only being made available for purchase online.  I realise that there is a drop in people reading hard copy books and most books are now read online but have the publishers of the OED considered those who can’t afford a computer or an IPad.  Has it come to the stage where to be educated and well-read you need to purchase a desk-top or lap-top computer?  I sincerely hope this is not true and that we haven't got to the point where you have to own a laptop or IPad to read a book on holiday.  It's bad enough that some music artists have only made their music available by download only.  I like to be able to hold the CD in my hand, read the booklet inside and I certainly like the feel of turning the page of a good novel and the satisfaction of closing it when I have finished it.  And what about the scrabble players of the world, they don't want to have to log on to their laptop every time they want to check whether a word is correct or not.  If this happens to all the books of the future, will libraries then become museums where you can't take a book out but can only go their to look at them behind glass.  I can't see the libraries loaning out the latest version of a book on an IPad, can you?
