The Haunting in Connecticut

I always love it when a horror movie starts with the words ‘Based on a true story’.  As a believer in the supernatural with a couple of possible visual sightings of the ghostly kind, this is the first thing that truly makes me shiver and sets the mood for me to be scared by the movie.  To help with the scared aspect, I had actually read and seen something on TV about the true case which this movie is ‘loosely based’ on.  But hey, ‘loosely based’ is where all the good ideas come from in my opinion.

I can say now that this movie gave me a couple of jumps, made me hold my breath and there was no way I couldn’t not finish watching this film.  It also kept the most unimaginative, non-believer firmly glued to the seat of our sofa and, at the end of the movie, asking for a funny program to watch before going to bed for the fear of not being able to sleep if they couldn’t.

This movie is up there with Mirrors, which I reviewed a couple of weeks back, with it’s scary rhymes, suspense and chilling moments that make you leave the comfort of you sofa like Sylvester the scaredy cat in the Warner Bros cartoons.  Definitely one to watch and one to add to your horror film collection.

9/10
