AJ Recommends Places to Visit:The Crooked House - Himley, West Midlands
|
What an excellent pub, you'll feel drunk before you even enter. Located in Himley, near Dudley in the West Midlands, The Crooked House pub (originally a farmhouse) was subject to subsidence due to some underground mine shafts collapsing. Restored and supported by girders and reinforced buttresses, it's now one of the most talked about pubs in the West Midlands. Not only does it serve a good pint, you don't have to drink at all to feel drunk. I couldn't help looking around at all the odd angles. Plus, ask the bar staff for a golf ball and watch as it amazingly rolls up hill. It's totally unbelievable. Of course, if that isn't enough this pub also claims to be haunted by two ghosts. I can't say that I saw or felt the ghost but I did see the curtains hanging away from the windows frame and the grandfather clock that looks like it will fall over any minute. If you need a good pint and want to go somewhere special I can highly recommend The Crooked House. Get over there, it's unbelievably good!
