This was the first horror book that I read and I actually done a book report on it at school.  I don't know how I got away with that one.

This isn't you typical horror story.  This is a true story and all the events that happen in this story actually happened for real in Illinois between the years 1865 and 1878.  As you can probably guess from the title, this is a story about possession but not just one account of possession.  Two girls, the first being Mary Roff who died in 1865 after a life of violent fits and speaking in tongues then returns thirteen years later, possessing the second young girl, Lurancy Vennum.

While reading, it is hard to believe that this story could be true, but other research that I have done into possession has brought up more accounts of this story.  

I can honestly say that I have read this book five times and would read it again.
