The Spider Called Fred

See the spider, I call him Fred

There was a time I’d wish him dead

A time when I’d see him on the wall

Sitting frozen, I’d watch him crawl

Sitting there, my skin would itch

Watching how his long legs twitched

He’d crawl upon the bedroom wall

And to my father I would call

My dad would come into the room

And try to squish him with a broom

Or swat him with a newspaper

To end his creepy-crawly caper

One day I decided it was all too much

And arranged a spider for me to touch

I couldn’t live my life in fear

Of such a creature it was clear

I held a Tarantula, a Chile Rose

Held it right before my nose

Feeling brave, I didn’t flee

Even raised money for charity

Now when I see him, I do not cry

We’re quite goods friends, that Fred and I

See the spider, I call him Fred

There was a time I’d wish him dead
